Go grocery shopping in English. Kiora and Ethan cover the words you need for the store, from the shopping list to asking for help and the checkout.
The lesson
Making a Shopping List
Before you go to the store, it is a good idea to make a shopping list. Write down everything you need so you do not forget anything. A good list helps you save time and money. You can group items by store section, like fruits and vegetables together, and dairy products together. This way, you can shop faster and avoid buying things you do not need.
Store Sections and Aisles
A grocery store is divided into different sections. The produce section has fresh fruits and vegetables. The dairy section has milk, cheese, butter, and yogurt. You can find bread in the bakery section, and ice cream or pizza in the frozen food section. Look at the signs above each aisle to find what you are looking for.
Cart, Basket, and Asking for Help
If you have many items to buy, take a shopping cart. If you only need a few things, a basket is easier to carry. When you cannot find a product, you can ask a store worker for help. Just say, "Excuse me, where can I find the rice?" The worker will tell you which aisle to go to. To ask about the price, you can say, "How much is this?"
Special Offers and the Checkout
Many stores have special offers and sales every week. Look for words like "sale" or "buy one, get one free" to save money. When you finish shopping, go to the checkout. The cashier will scan your items and tell you the total. You can pay by card or with cash. Tip: Keep your receipt in case you need to return something later.
